Another native plant landscape I designed should be proof enough
to dispel the misconception that native plants are weedy and unfit
for the home garden. Look at the beautiful pinks of the Joe-Pye
Weed (Eupatorium), coral bells (heuchera), and spider plants (Cleome)
intermingled with the bright yellows of Coreopsis, black-eyed Susan,
and perennial sunfowers. The ecological integrity of this created
ecosystem is enhanced by practicing organic horticulture - just
a little bit of fertilizer, no herbicides, and absolutely no insecticides,
to ensure a healthy insect population.
This is typical of our approach to landscape design and restoration
- working primarily with native plants, reducing or eliminating
the use of costly and toxic chemicals, knowing how and when to use
exotic plants, creating food for birds, insects, and butterflies,
and creating a haven of life and beauty where one can enjoy the
bounty of what nature can offer when given the chance to express
itself. We like to cooperate with nature, and the results can be
amazing.
